Tron 3 May Be Titled "Tron: Ascension"
Production Weekly tweeted that the official title for “Tron 3″ may be TRON: ASCENSION.
According to a tweet from Production Weekly, the Tron: Legacy sequel "is planning to film in Vancouver from Early-October 2015 thru February 2016" under that title.
Earlier this month, we reported that a third Tron film would commence shooting during this time frame with rumours that Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will return alongside Garrett Hedlund reprising his role as Sam Flynn.
At this time, only Garrett Hedlund has been confirmed to return to the cast, with Joseph Kosinski also returning to direct.
Stay tuned to Teasers-Trailers as more news about Tron: Ascension becomes available.
In the previous film, Hedlund starred as Sam Flynn, the son of the 1982 film’s original character Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges) who became stuck in the Grid’s digital world for two decades. The character Quorra, a skilled Grid warrior and confidante to Kevin, was portrayed by Olivia Wilde.
Released in 1982, the original TRON underperformed at the box office, but nonetheless managed to find an important place in pop culture over the next few decades.
In 2010, the sequel/spinoff Tron: Legacy earned $400 million off its $170 million budget. While there’s no further details yet on cast or story, it’s worth noting Tron 3 — aka Tron: Legacy 2 — has been in development at Disney for almost five years. Speculation aside, it would be cool to see Cillian Murphy take off his “Peaky Blinder” for a bit to return to the franchise as Edward Dillinger, Jr.
