Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) Eyeing a Huge $85 Million 2nd Weekend
Marvel’s superhero sequel “Avengers: Age of Ultron” continued it's successful run at the box office counter, raking in another $21.3 million and positioning itself for an $85 million second weekend triumph at the box office.
The film is set for the second best second weekend ever, behind only the $103 million that the original Marvel superhero "Avengers" managed to score in its second weekend in 2012. However, Avengers: Age of Ultron is now officially the highest grosser of the year and it will easily beat the best second weekend collections of any movie of 2015.
After the second weekend, the film will be ahead of Bradley Cooper's war drama action flick 'American Sniper' ($64.6 million) and Vin Diesel's action adventure thriller 'Furious 7' ($59.5 million).
Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon's action comedy 'Hot Pursuit' debuts at number #2 with a decent collection of $12 million. The film collected $4.2 million from 3,003 theaters on its first day Friday, and is looking at $12 million opening weekend.
MGM and Warner Bros.' New Line expected a bit more from the female-targeting PG-13 cop caper, particularly on Mothers Day weekend. But bad reviews — 6 percent on Rotten Tomatoes — may have taken a toll. Audiences weren’t impressed either and gave it a weak 'C+' CinemaScore.
'Age of Ultron' has taken in $257 million domestically and will be around $315 million after Sunday. “The Avengers” 2012 stood at $373 million after two weekends in domestic release.
Directed by Joss Whedon, the blockbuster sequel has taken in more than $478 million from abroad after two weekends in release, which is much higher than the first Avengers movie!
